COCONUT SEEDAI

COCONUT SEEDAI

A savoury dish prepared during Janmashtami in every Tamil household is the crispy uppu seedai .Today I will be sharing a recipe of Uppu seedai which I have named as ''Coconut seedai '' because of use of coconut in it.This recipe I learnt from my mother-in-law.She is from Palakkad in Kerala and she prepares this as she has has seen her grandmother do it.So once again a traditional South Indian recipe which is prepared by my mother in law at your disposal.Although this recipe is easy many a times people complain of this seedai bursting in oil and causing blisters on our body.To avoid such situations  you have to follow some instructions.Firstly sieve the rice flour (home made or store brought) two three times. There must not be any lump in flour.Believe me by following simple measures you will be getting crispy  savouries  ie seedai. As I said earlier this recipe is prepared in Janmashtami but you can also prepare it on usual days and serve as evening snacks with tea.

INGREDIENTS

RICE FLOUR -2 GLASSES
ROASTED SPLIT GRAM /URAD DAL POWDER -1/4 G;LASS
COCONUT -1/2 CUP
CUMIN SEEDS /JEERA -1 TSP
BLACK PEPPER /KALI MIRCH -1  TSP
BUTTER-2 TBSP
SALT-TO TASTE
OIL -FOR FRYING

STEP BY STEP PREPARATION OF UPPU SEEDAI /COCONUT SEEDAI

Firstly we shall grind coconut, cumin seeds, pepper to a fine paste with help of little water.

We shall take this mixture in a basin.Measure two steel glasses of sieved rice flour and add to the basin.

Add 2 tbsp butter and salt to taste.

With help of little water make a soft dough.

Make small round balls with the dough and spread on paper or cloth.Make the sizes similar for even cooking.

Deep fry in oil in small batches.

Crispy Uppu Seedai /Coconut Seedai is ready.Drain the excess oil and store in air tight container. You can prepare this for evening snacks and enjoy with tea coffee.

Do try  this recipe in your kitchen.
