( Parappu Podi )




Today sharing a traditional South Indian powder recipe found in every kitchen for instant use. Parappu in Tamil means lentils or dals. For this recipe we just have to dry roast lentils with few spices and then blend them and store in air tight container for use every time. All we need to do is cook hot rice and mix the ready lentil powder and eat. This powder comes in handy when we are tired or not in mood to cook. Just prepare rice or you can even use left over rice and mix with this ready powder. Then add  a spoon of oil and serve with sambar or any curry left. One can use this powder during travel or while staying alone in hostel.




INGREDIENTS 

Pigeon Pea / Tuvar dal - 1 cup / 2 ladle full

Yellow Dal / Moong dal - 1 cup / 2 ladle full

Black Pepper / Kali mirch- 1/2 tsp

Whole dry red chillies - 4-5 

Asafoetida/ Hing- 1/4 tsp

Cumin seeds / Jeera- 1 tsp

Roasted chana dal / Futana - 1 tbsp ( optional)


Salt - To taste


Step by step recipe :


Dry roast two ladle or 1 small cup of pigeon pea dal.


Dry roast two ladles or 1 small cup of yellow dal/ moong dal.



Add cumin seeds, red chillies, black pepper and asafoetida. You can also add 1 tbsp roasted chana dal for colour and flavour.

 






Dry roast all ingredients without burning.




Let the roasted ingredients cool.

Add salt.


Blend to a fine powder.


Store in an airtight container. 

    


Use dry spoon to use.

It can be kept for few months in a cool and dry place.


To serve 

Take hot rice. Add 1 tbsp of ready dal powder.

Add 1 tbsp of oil. Til oil or sesame oil is best for the rice but one can use any refined oil or ghee. Mix well and eat. Tasty dal powder / parappu podi is ready.

  Potato Cheese Balls  Hi all!! A favourite of kids.You can make this recipe of potato cheese balls with very few ingredients.
