Black Chana Curry

 BLACK CHANA CURRY / KALA CHANA CURRY

(Without onion and garlic)



Good day everyone .

During some religious functions ,days we avoid eating onion and garlic .In one of those days I made this Kala Chana Curry without onion and garlic. Though adding onion and garlic make the curry tasty even without them you can enjoy a good curry  .


INGREDIENTS

Black chana / Kala Chana - 1 cup (boiled)

Tomatoes- 2 big

Garlic -1 inch piece

Green chillies -3-4

Cumin seeds/jeera-1 tsp

Oil-as required

Spices -turmeric,red chilli powder, coriander powder,garam masala as per taste.

Salt to taste



Recipe

Wash and soak 1 cup chana at night and in morning pressure cook the chana with 1 & 1/2 cups water, little salt and turmeric .It may take 5-6 whistles to cook.

In a mixer grind tomatoes, chillies,ginger to fine paste .

Heat 2 tbsp oil in kadai .Add 1 tsp cumin seeds/jeera and a pinch of asafoetida/hing.

Add the grinded paste and let it cook.After 4 minutes add turmeric,2 tsp red chilli powder, 2 tsp coriander powder .Once the masala leaves sides add boiled chana .Check salt and add salt accordingly .Mix well. Check consistency of curry .If you want the curry watery add little water or if less watery add chana first then slowly add water.

Close the lid and cook for 5 minutes.When the chana and masalas are well incorporated add 2 tsp garam masala.cook for 3-4 minutes more .Add coriander leaves.

Serve this curry hot with fluffy pooris,rice,parathas,rotis.
