PAPAYA KOOTU / PAPAYA GRAVY IN COCONUT

RAW PAPAYA KOOTU / CURRY






Hi friends,
Once again a South Indian dish as accompaniment for rice,It is made of raw papaya ,chana dal in coconut  gravy .Its a simple dish with health benefits. Hope you like it.

INGREDIENTS

RAW PAPAYA - 1/2
CHANA DAL / SPLIT BENGAL GRAM - 3/4 BOWL
COCONUT - 1/2 CUP ( 4-5 TBSP)
CUMIN SEEDS / JEERA -   2 TSP
RED CHILLIES -2-3
BLACK SPLIT GRAM / URAD DAL -1 TSP
MUSTARD SEEDS / SARSON - 1 TSP
ASOFOETIDA/HING - A PINCH




















PROCEDURE -:


                                     Peel skin of papaya and chop into medium sized  pieces .





   Take chana dal /Bengal gram in a vessel .Rinse well .Add some water ,tomatoes,turmeric and pressure cook to four to five whistles.






                                                     Now the dal and papaya is cooked well.



To prepare coconut gravy in a mixie jar we shall grind dry red chillies,cumin seeds and coconut together with little water.




                    Now we shall add this coconut gravy to cooked dal and papaya.


 



                                                       Now add salt to taste.



                           Let the gravy / curry cook for five to six minutes and then switch off gas.




      For tempering we shall add mustard seeds,urad dal / black split gram ,curry leaves, hing/asafoetida    to 2 tsp hot oil.






         Pour the tempering on gravy . Raw papaya kootu,Papaya  gravy with coconut and dal is ready to be served.




                             Serve along with rice and vegetable curry of your choice.

Sweet Pongal

SHAKKARPONGAL / SWEET PONGAL Good day friends , I prepared Shakkarapongal / sweet pongal.A South Indian delicious sweet dish most importantly prepared during Pongal.Its also prepared as prasadam /prasad on special occasions at every South Indian homes and temples.It is one of my most favourite dish.I even don't mind standing in queue to get sweet pongal as prasadam in temples.
